I am a High School Junior currently looking into my future. I love both Psychology and music and recently discovered the field of Music Therapy. I was planning on getting a doctorate in Psychology before I discovered Music Therapy, and I’m wondering if could somehow study both or get my doctorate and then go into Music Therapy. I was planning on going to Concordia University Nebraska, but that can change if need be. Any help would be great. Thanks!

the relation between music therapy and psychology is that some people with disorders (depression would be a good example) want help through therapy, not medication. so one of the various types of therapy that may be able to help them is music therapy. they find out which songs make their mood better, and their depression less noticeable, or what instrument they can play that makes them feel happy.
what you can do is double major in music therapy and psychology. unfortunately, there arent any colleges in nebraska that offer both of those majors. but there ARE twenty colleges within the midwest area that DO offer both majors.
but i think a good choice for you would be to first, focus on psychology (especially cause itll get you a better job than music therapy), and get what ever degree(s) you want in that field. then when youre done with that, you can go back and just get a bachelors in music therapy while youre working as a psychologist.
